What Would You Do With This?

Do you like working with stripes?  Or, do you avoid them?

I love stripes for sashing, borders, binding.  But I rarely use them for anything else.  One day I was at the LQS and noticed this bolt of fabric with 1″ stripes in shades of black/gray sitting on a chair.  I commented on it and the owner said people just weren’t excited about it.

Now, that’s a challenge if I ever saw one!  So my mind started doing it’s thing and an idea came to me.

Shades of Black & Gray

I started gathering up other fabrics to go with it and when I got home I started playing in EQ7.

Fabrics used with the stripe

I’ve finished the quilt top and I’ll show that to you in a few days but what I want you to do is:

Put on your thinking caps and tell me what you think should be done with this grouping.

I think a kalidascope style quilt would be very interesting or even a trip around the world might be fun

    • Hi Katie. I’ll have to think about how I could do a kaleidoscope design using the gray stripes. That’s the main fabric.
      Good idea

Such elegant fabrics need an equally elegant pattern…rich, timeless…Magic Squares? One for the Money? Isosceles 12421 Quilt Pattern? Chain Linked? Walk About? Sampler using the gray/black stripe in each block? I can’t wait to see what you come up with!!

I think I would use it in a log cabin quilt with a red 1″ border and the gradient gray stripes also as the binding.

I made a Card Trick quilt with red, black and white. They went well together in that pattern. Carpenter’s Star would be dramatic as well.

Oh dear…despite my personal opinion of the book, the fabric kinda begs for a “50 Shades of Grey” quilt, doesn’t it? I’m glad you chose the pop of red. Like you, I love stripes, so I can’t wait to see what you came up with!
