I’m a little sad that the Quilt Whisperer class is over but I am looking forward to applying some of the things I learned to some of my quilts. I came away from this experience knowing that I will never look at quilting possibilities in the same way. Nor will I ever be able to just casually glance at things in stores, in homes, in magazines….
We learned how to use our surroundings for inspiration to create designs for quilting. I went to a jewelry trade show with a friend last week and took my camera with me. I took several pictures while I was there and am going to see what I can work up with them. There was a shopper there who had on a dress with a gorgeous crocheted hem. I wanted to stop her so badly and ask if I could take a picture of her dress. Lol.
I think I only missed doing one of the homework assignments. Our last assignment was to take a quilt top and design the quilting for it. I used my design “Midnight in Pennsylvania” as my quilt top. I got most of it done and just hit a wall. I couldn’t create anything to fill several empty spaces. Carla took a look at it and suggested that I use some of my other motifs as inspiration so that’s what I did. I pretty much started all over and it took some time but I’m pretty satisfied with it.
I currently draw with a mouse using Paint Shop Pro on my desktop. It’s a little tricky as some layers I can use the pen tool and some layers I need to use the paint brush. I just got my new pen stylus in the mail so I’m going to see how well it works with my new tablet that I got to use with the PantoVision that’s coming with my Innova.
Here’s a look at what I drew.
Here’s a close-up of part of the design.
Update on the barn progress—-Don has finished all the walls & ceiling in the longarm room. He’s ready to put up the moulding and trim the windows and that room will be finished except for a floor covering.

/ January 30, 2012Thanks, Lynn. Unfortunately, I probably won’t make another one of those quilts but it’s tempting just so I could try to execute the designs.

Gorgeous design! I saw your post on the EQ list and just had to come visit. Wasn’t it a wonderful class?! I haven’t had much more time to work on the assignments, but have been using it as I work on current customer quilts. Life just gets in the way!
I will be following your blog to see what other wonderful things you come up with!

/ January 30, 2012Hi Bari. Thanks for coming over for a visit. I absolutely loved the class. It was fabulous. This is actually my second time to sign up for the class. The first time, there were just too many things that came up for me to be able to do it so I took it again. Carla is incredible.
I would love to take the tablet class but I don’t use PSE.

/ January 31, 2012I agree with everyone else, you have done a beautiful job of creating several quilting patterns that fit the design of the quilt. This would work whether you were planning to machine quilt or hand quilt the quilt top. ann
