Walk for Loved Ones or Yourself

Yesterday we put on our new Rockport walking shoes Don bought for us and headed to North Oaks Park in Hammond for the annual Cancer Walk-a-Thon.  Vanessa, Faith, and Mother joined us there.  Weyerhaeuser had a tent there so we signed in and waited for our turn to walk.

I only made 2 laps around the baseball field but Don probably walked 15 laps or so.  The gang from Weyerhaeuser grilled hot dogs for everyone.  I passed on the hot dog and enjoyed a grilled burger from the Tangipahoa School Board tent instead which was set up next to us.  A little healthier fare for me.

We all got free lime green Weyerhaeuser T-shirts and shirts for the Walk-a-Thon.  They were selling black “Fight Dat” T-shirts at the concession booth.  They’re really pretty…purple & gold cancer ribbons on the front of the shirts.  Since we’re in south Louisiana and avid Saints fans in this area, the “Fight Dat” kind of goes along with “Who Dat”.  🙂

The freebies and time spent with friends was nice but most importantly, we went to support the American Cancer Society.  We have some dear friends who are fighting the battle with cancer right now and a friend who is a breast/thyroid cancer survivor as well as Don’s darling sister who is an Ovarian cancer survivor.

Our walk yesterday was dedicated to these very, special friends & family:

Susan & Ernie

Rhoda

Cedelia aka Sissy

For those who are reading this, please consider becoming involved in American Cancer Society activities in the area where you live.  If you can’t join one of the walks please consider donating to the cause.  Get out there and walk as if your life depends on it because one day….it might.
