It’s Strawberry Season

berryresizeTangipahoa parish farmers grow the most wonderful strawberries. In fact, they’re so tasty that Ponchatoula is called “Strawberry Capital of the World”.  Far be it from me to argue with that!

They really are good.  Remember my favorite place to shop?  BTP (Berry Town Produce) is always a good place to find nice strawberries.  We were shopping at our local grocery store in Albany this afternoon (Carter’s).  They’re fairly new and don’t have as large a selection as the bigger stores in Hammond but it’s new….and it’s clean!  And we like to support local businesses whenever we can.

We found these beautiful berries there.  They were grown in Hungarian Settlement…a little community just south of Albany.““““““““““`

Here’s what you do with fresh strawberries.  You slice them and sugar them and eat them while they’re warm.  Or you can freeze them after you sugar them.

I know it’s not Valentine’s Day but the berries look pretty in that cup don’t they?

Strawberry Dessert

Strawberry Dessert

Doesn’t this look delicious?  If I were a slammin’ cook I’d have made my own pound cake and whipped my own cream.  But since I was short on time today, I opted for the easy way out.  Still pretty darned good.  🙂

Oh…do you like my china?  That’s my wedding china that has never been used…not in the almost 39 years we’ve been married, but I got it out today for this dessert.

Wouldn’t that taste yummy for breakfast!!! Love the china too…we broke our china out when we bought the Burkett place…now we use it like the regular dishes right along with the silver and the crystal. Why save it? USE IT!!! Figure I loved it enough to buy it…might as well love living with it!

Oh…does this mean strawberries for AR???? I’ll whip fresh cream and Wanda will bake the cake…..

Breakfast, dessert after lunch, dessert after dinner, afternoon snack, bedtime snack, middle of the night snack. Lol.
I’m hoping we can have strawberries on vacation. Depends on our crop and how long the local crops hold out. 🙂

The reason we don’t use the china is our kitchen/dining is ceramic tile and everything that hits it shatters into a million pieces. Chris broke a $96 bottle of medicine one time…ouch!! The tile is easy to clean but it’s unforgiving.

If you were really my friend, you wouldn’t mention strawberries or shrimp or crawfish on your blog. Those look so good!
