A New Text Widget

I wanted a widget to show how much I love EQ6 so I figured out how to do it. Granted, I’m not an experienced html writer but after fiddling most of the day/night, I’ve got one I kind of like. The background is red with a purple border which are always good colors. 🙂

If you’re a user of EQ also and would like one for your blog here’s the text code you need to use:

<table width=”150″><tr><td align=”center” bgcolor=”#990000″ style=”border:5px solid #660066;color:#ffffff;padding-top:5px;padding-bottom:5px;”> <p style=”font-size:20px;font-family:Lucida Handwriting,Serif;color:#000000;font-weight:bold;”>
<a href=”http://www.electricquilt.com”>I use<br /><img src=”_____________________” width=”114″ height=”65″ border=”0″ /><br />Do you <br />EQ too?</a><br />

Copy and paste the above code into notepad or word processing program.  When you get finished with it you will copy/paste it into a “text” widget at your blog dashboard.

You’ll need to go to the Electric Quilt website and choose a graphic you like….save it to your computer and then upload it to your web page so WordPress can access it for the widget (hope I’m using that term in the proper context!).

After you do that, you’ll need to visit the web page where you placed the graphic….right click on the graphic…click on properties…. and copy the location of the graphic.

Paste that into the above code where you see the underline by highlighting the underline….deleting and then pasting the location.  Everyone needs to use their own bandwidth for  the graphic rather than linking to EQ’s site.  OK?

If you want to change the background color and border color you’ll find a hex color chart on this page. Just change the code for the colors in the text.  You can also change the font if you like.

  1. Wow thanks for the code Sheryl. I just managed to get the code saved to notepad before I have to go to work but you better believe I will be posting this to my blog. I went to the EQ site to get a graphic but with the new design, I couldn’t find one so I saved your EQ6 pic.

Also, I did add a little code so that when the widget is clicked it opens in a new window. After the href electricquilt.com” target=”_blank”.

    Thanks again,

I have tried doing this a dozen times and although I get the right box and content coming up on the sidebar of my blog when you click on in the box the message I always get is that Firefox can’t find the server at http://www.electricquilt.xn--com-9o0a. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
